Fuel supply system in Diesel engine (CI engine) .

Fuel supply system in Compression ignition (CI) engine

Generally, the CI engine is used in heavy vehicles. Bus, trucks, special type vehicles, etc., and in CI engines most commonly used fuel is Diesel. CI engine is part of I C. Engine (Internal combustion engine).

Generally, the fuel supply system of diesel engines is the same as petrol engines only. The only difference is fuel and air did not mix like petrol engines. It means the carburetor is not used.

List of components used in the fuel supply system.

1) Fuel Tank

2) Fuel pump

3) Fuel Filter

4) Air Filter

5) Fuel Injector

6) Engine chamber (Cylinder chamber).

Fuel supply system in Diesel engine

Here is the pump fuel supply system which is used in modern vehicles. In this pump fuel supply system.

The fuel tank stores the fuel and the Fuel pump sucks the fuel from the fuel tank and supply to the end of the engine. In between fuel passes through a fuel filter which purifies the fuel and then it transfers to the fuel injector

Fuel injectors directly spray the fuel in the cylinder chamber at the end of the compression stroke without mixing with filter fresh air. Fresh Air comes into the cylinder chamber through the inlet valve. Fresh air comes to the inlet valve by an air filter, which cleans the air before being supplied to the engine.

Remember In diesel engines only diesel is used as fuel. Diesel fire point is high compared to petrol. In all heavy vehicles or high-load capacities, diesel is used as fuel.

You can be more clear about the working of the fuel system by the below block- diagram of the fuel supply system image. You can easily understand this block-diagram fuel supply system in a Diesel engine.

Functions of fuel supply system components.

1) Fuel tank:-  The function of the fuel tank is to store the fuel.

2) Fuel pump:- The function of the fuel pump is to suck the fuel from the fuel tank and transfer it to the engine.

3) Fuel filter:- The function of the fuel filter is to purify or clean the fuel that comes from the fuel tank.

4) Air filter:- The function of an air filter is to clean/ purify the air before transfer into a carburetor.

5) Engine: - The function of the engine is to work as per the ratio of air and fuel mix into the cylinder chamber.

I hope this information is very helpful to you and get all the answers about the fuel supply system.

Application of diesel of engine?
Buses, trucks, industrial

Does a diesel engine require less maintenance?
No, diesel engines require more maintenance.

Does a diesel engine require a carburetor?
No.

Can we use methanol in the CI engine?
No. Because methanol has a high octane number and a low cetane number.

Types of fuel used in CI engine?
  1. Straight chain paraffin.

  2. Aromatics.

  3. Branched-chain- paraffin.

  4. Naphthalene.
Fuel ratio is same in all diesel engines?
No, the Fuel ratio in diesel engines is 18:1 to 80:1. And the air-fuel ratio for CI engines varies from (18:1 to 80:1)full load to no load. The air-fuel ratio in the ci engine lies in the range of 18 to 25.

C12H23 means?
C12H23 is a chemical formula for diesel.

PH value of diesel fuel?
PH value of diesel is 5.5 to 8. PH means high acid.
